Sheldon’s Friendship Flowchart

Okay, I love the TV show, Big Bang Theory. On the last episode, Sheldon, the most hyperintelligent and socially inept of the cast, wanted to make a new friend, so he created a friendship flowchart. It looked something like this. Okay, it look a lot like this (I have a program on my work computer that’s really good for making flowcharts):

Unfortunately, he got to the Do I Share That Interest? part and got stuck in an infinite loop, because he didn’t like doing any of  the things that the person he wanted to be friends with did.  So one of the other guys, Wolowitz, modified it by adding  a loop counter, so that after getting 3 no’s on the Do I Share That Interest? part, he could choose the Least Objectionable Activity (LOA) and do that activity.  Then, the flowchart looked like this:

It was hilarious, and I thought it would b e really cool to have a nice clean copy of it. Thus, I spent the better part of the evening doing the flowchart.  This, of course, made me think that maybe I have too much time on my hands and could use some new friends.  Maybe I should call someone.  Maybe Share a Meal or a Hot Beverage or Partake in a Recreational Activity.

Cool job! One small correction though - it’s “n=0″ not “n=no”.

Sorry all for taking so long to approve the comments. I have a new theme and comments don’t jump out at me like they did in the old theme.

Jack, Thanks for the correction. I have the file and will try to correct it tonight.

That’s my old school/longboarding skateboarding page. Haven’t kept it updated for years, but there’s still some decent info there, Chris

Just one of those comedies I love to watch - if I miss it on tv I head over to http://www.watchthebigbangtheoryforfree.blogspot.com where I can watch the episodes I missed.

One other hysterical detail is when Wolowitz adds the “loop counter and an escape to the LOA”…”Howard, that’s brilliant! I’m surprised you saw that”. Wolowitz: “Gee, why can’t Sheldon make friends”. The writers of this show are just too clever…and the cast delivers perfectly!

I was talking to someone Today and the exact same situation about trouble making new friends came up and I tried to explain how Sheldon had carefully drawn out the whole process on a chalkboard in this week’s show. The more I tried to remember the flow, I realized I couldn’t remember the details because I had been laughing so hard during the bit.

Then it occurred to me if I Googled “Sheldon friend flow chart”, some nerd must have drawn it out because, well, that’s what Nerds do. This is priceless and very nicely done. Thank you…
