CruiseTrek

At work today, an oversized full color magazine appeared in my mailbox.  It was published by the company and focused on the people who work there and what they did both inside and outside of work.  It was nice, very well produced, full color throughout, even had  a couple gate-folded (like Playboy centerfold) pages.  It must have cost a small fortune to produce.  Not the type of thing I would run out and buy for myself, but still kind of cool to have just show up.

My office-mate and I were flipping through it, he said, “Go to page 43.” On the two-page spread was a section titled, “How we spent our Free Time in 2008.” It had lots of people doing things like racing motorcycles and group photo of a cricket team, and one person who had hiked to the base of Mount Everest.  In all of this was a woman who was involved in CruiseTrek, Star Trek themed sea cruises.  That’s what my office-mate wanted me to see.

“Wow, a Star Trek cruise,” I said.  “Must be a great place to meet chicks. You just look for the ones wearing a red shirt.  They have low self esteem.”

I got a chuckle out of this blog, since I’m female and have been on 8 CruiseTreks in the last 9 years! And, yes, I even have a red shirt — with a communicator pin! Not sure I fit your idea of “chick” though, Chris, since I was born in l938. (Gotcha!)

Aunty, I have a red shirt, myself. Some good friends or ours got married on the bridge of the Enterprise at the Star Trek Experience. My wife was matron of honor, in a Next Gen uniform. I wasn’t in the wedding, but wore the original series red shirt. I seemed somehow fitting for a wedding. Thanks for stopping by,

    Chris
